Safety & Environment

EUROBUS is striving to attain the latest safety standards and to improve these continuously. It is our goal to offer you safety and unique quality so you can enjoy your tours with us even more. Consult our brochure for the figures and facts concerning the actions EUROBUS undertakes to offer safety while caring for the environment.

Operating License
You have to be licensed to operated buses. This license authorizes the company to transport passengers. EUROBUS has a valid license issued by the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) for the commercial, cross-border coach transport of passengers.

Safety Standards on Board
A fire extinguisher, a first aid kit, and generously sized and clearly marked emergency exits are standard on all of our tour buses. In addition, at every seat you will find a brochure informing you about the safety on board. We will show you a short movie about our safety standards upon request. We strive to equip our coaches with the latest available safety standards.

Experience
EUROBUS has more than a longstanding tradition. Since 1909, for more than 100 years, we have tried hard to assure that our guests are safe and comfortable. We apply our extensive experience to invest in your safety.

Tachograph
All our buses are equipped with the legally mandated tachograph, which records each movement of the bus and documents whether the driver has maintained the legally mandated resting and driving times. The regulatory authority checks the tachograph regularly.

Speeds
In Switzerland, the maximum speed for coaches is 100 km/h. If the speed is exceeded the automatic speed governor kicks in and automatically slows down the engine to the permissible maximum speed.

Emergency Organization
Our service personnel is available 24/7 even for smaller incidents. In case of large events, we have a crisis management in place. It consists of a trained core team and external specialists. In such cases, EUROBUS cooperates with the Travel Helpdesk or Mondial Assistance Insurance, which is responsible for the care of family members in such an exceptional case.

Quality
EUROBUS is a company that participates in the quality program for the Swiss Tourism and has attained the Seal of Quality, level III (QIII / ISO 9001). Level III includes a comprehensive quality management system (QMS) that is internationally recognized. In other words, we do our best to keep the service quality for our guests as high as possible and to advance it continuously.

Coaches
Our tour coaches are inspected thoroughly and regularly. They are subject to a technical inspection of the cantonal Road Traffic Office, which is carried out once per year. All our coaches meet the safety requirements mandated by the government and are additionally equipped with the latest technology.

Insurance
Eurobus carries a liability insurance that covers CHF 20 million per damage incident (passenger insurance). Certificate of Insurance (PDF) >>>

Travel Guarantee Funds
EUROBUS is member in the statutory GUARANTEE FUNDS of the Swiss travel industry. The money paid for your trip is 100% guaranteed. EUROBUS herewith satisfies all conditions of the Swiss Pauschalreisengesetz [Tour Packages Act].

Tour Guides – Bus Chauffeurs
The tour guides / bus drivers are well aware of their responsibility. Each of our drivers had a rigorous training and participates regularly in-house and external safety and driving trainings as well as continuing education workshops. In addition, the drivers must undergo the legally mandated medical examination.

Seatbelts
It is obligatory to wear seat belts, provided the coach is equipped with the belts.

Work hour and Resting Time Regulations
To keep you safe, we maintain the applicable work hour and resting time regulations for professional drivers:

Maximum Work Hours
15 hours (from / to the EUROBUS car park).

Resting Time
Uninterrupted resting time:
11 hours of every 24 hours, in exceptional cases however at least 9 hours.

Driving Breaks
45 minutes after a maximum of 4.5 hours.

Maximum Driving Time per Day
9 hours.

We benefit the Climate
The climate change is one of the largest global challenges of our times. We are all affected by it and must contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases.

A Comparison between Different Modes of Transportation
How far does one get with 1 kg CO2?
Compared to the car, airplane, and even the train, the coach gets you by far the farthest with 1 kg CO2. You can travel 31.4 km with the coach, 19.2 km with the train, 7.7 km with the car, and 2.7 km with the airplane (see graphic illustration below).

These figures consider emissions generated during energy production as well. Air travel considers all effects on the climate based on medium, standard occupancy rates in public transports and the average one and a half people who sit in a car. (Source: Umweltbundesamt/Federal Environmental Agency and manufacturers’ information)

However, we protect the climate even more. EUROBUS gives you the opportunity to compensate the CO2 emission of your package or group tour even more. The non-profit organization myclimate uses your compensation contribution for various projects to protect the climate. To find the compensation amount for each group tour go to www.eurobus.ch. This voluntary amount is printed in the catalogue as well. It appears on your offer for group travel and your travel confirmation papers. At Cinque Terre Travel, the fees are e.g. CHF 6.00 per person.

In addition, the new diesel engines and the Euro 5 Emission Standard set clearly a lot lower emission standards than in the past.

EUROBUS impacts the local transport as well. Since September 2007, we have been operating the first hybrid bus in Switzerland, which is the regional bus Lenzburg.
