Augsburg Christkindlesmarkt Advent magic in front of the Renaissance town hall
On the Rathausplatz and in the surrounding lanes, the stalls of one of Germany's most beautiful Christmas markets - the Augsburg Christkindlesmarkt - stand side by side. Allow yourself to be enchanted by the Angel Play, which turns Augsburg's town hall into a giant Advent calendar. The Fugger city looks back on a rich past. Famous is the "Fuggerei", founded in the 16th century and the world's first social housing complex.

Day 1: Switzerland - Augsburg
Travel past Bregenz and Ulm to Augsburg. Arrival at approx. 14:30. The rest of the day is at your leisure. The Renaissance architecture of the Town Hall and the Perlachturm has formed a unique backdrop for the Christmas market for 500 years. The market can be traced back to 1498. At that time it was still called the “Gingerbread Market” and served as a place of sale for “Lebzelter” (gingerbread bakers), who offered their wares here. 150 stalls tempt visitors to the festively decorated market with handicrafts, heavenly delicacies and hot mulled wine. From the breathtaking “Golden Hall” of the Town Hall or the Perlachturm, you can enjoy the view over the glittering Christmas city. The traditional “Engelesspiel” (Angel Play) is famous – every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 18:00, the imposing Town Hall is transformed into a giant Advent calendar. 24 music-making Christmas angels then appear in the windows of the Renaissance building.
