Castles and Gardens of Southern England Colourful, magnificent and in full bloom
Nowhere else in the world are there so many gardens, parks and castles open to the public as in the counties of Kent, Sussex and Surrey in south-east England. Day 1: Switzerland - Arras
Journey via Reims to Arras, an almost unknown gem with two fantastic squares in the Flemish late Gothic style.
The last boarding point in Switzerland is at Basel station, Meret Oppenheim Strasse, at 09.10.
Day 2: Great Dixter - Eastbourne
Ferry from Calais to Dover. In the romantic town of Rye, you will climb the winding lanes up to the Mermaid Inn, which once served as a hideout for smuggling gangs. Continue to Great Dixter. Particularly colourful plantings surround a 15th-century manor house.
Day 3: Borde Hill - Brighton
Sheffield Park enchants with its lakes and waterfalls. Borde Hill Gardens delight with their unique style, ranging from subtropical valleys to refined rose gardens and Italian gardens. To finish, you will visit the Royal Pavilion, a former royal summer residence in Brighton.
Day 4: Pashley - Sissinghurst
Visit the romantic, dreamy private garden of the Sellick family at Pashley Manor. With its pond, its walled garden and its sculptures, it invites you to take long strolls in every season. Themed gardens and the small castle characterise the enchanting Sissinghurst. A dream in white: the "White Garden", more popular in England than any other; the rose garden and the cottage garden are no less beautiful.
Day 5: Hampton Court - Thames
(Optional excursion) Visit Hampton Court, the vast former home of the eccentric King Henry VIII. In the 24-hectare parkland and plantations, the famous maze invites you to play hide-and-seek. Relaxing boat trip on the Thames.
Day 6: Walmer Castle - Lille
The imposing fortress of Walmer Castle long served as the residence of the Lord Warden. The beautiful garden, sheltered from the salty Channel winds, is home to an impressive variety of plants and trees. Return to France.
Day 7: Lille - Switzerland
Return journey through Alsace to Switzerland.
