Day 1: Switzerland – Troyes
Journey to Troyes. Stop in Belfort along the way.
Day 2: Northern Burgundy
In the morning you will travel to Auxerre in northern Burgundy, where the Canal du Nivernais flows into the River Yonne. The best-known sight, which you will also admire during your walking tour, is Saint-Etienne Cathedral, which rises up from among the townhouses. Construction of the cathedral began in 1215 but was not completed until the 16th century. Auxerre is also known for its beautiful, unique clock tower: the hands of the clock, which end in a depiction of the sun and the moon, meet at 12 noon at new moon and at midnight at full moon. What would a trip to Burgundy be without a drop of delicious wine? In the afternoon you will visit a winemaker at his cellar and taste the locally renowned Crémant de Bourgogne.
Day 3: Troyes
A walking tour awaits you in Troyes. Colourful old half-timbered houses, picturesque lanes and impressive churches: you do not have to search for the beauty of this town, whose old town is shaped like a champagne cork. It reveals itself at first glance. As you stroll along the cobbled streets, you will appreciate the poetry of the timber buildings – green, blue, yellow and pale pink façades, cross-mullioned windows, carved beams, oriels, pointed gables and overhanging roofs as far as the eye can see. During the guided tour you will visit a local cellar to sample regional delicacies, including the obligatory glass of champagne. Santé! The afternoon is at your leisure.
Day 4: Troyes - Switzerland
Return journey to Switzerland. Stop along the way in Dijon, the elegant capital of Burgundy. It delights with a beautiful old town full of half-timbered houses, grand townhouses and historic squares. The city is famous for its culinary specialities such as mustard, cassis and first-class Burgundy wines – a charming destination for lovers of culture and fine food.
