Christmas in Wels A visit to the Christkindl
Wels, the charming town in the heart of Upper Austria, does full justice to its position on the Romantic Road. Its main square, with its magnificent townhouses and arcaded courtyards, is among the most beautiful in the country. The pretty town of Steyr, together with its suburb of Christkindl, is simply made for a Christmas trip.

Day 1: Switzerland - Wels
Journey to Wels. Check-in at the family-run 4* Hotel Ploberger.
Day 2: Christmas Eve in Christkindl
Drive to Steyr. In the suburb of Christkindl, the programme includes a visit to the unique nativity scenes. You will then visit the famous Christkindl Post Office. If you still have Christmas post to send today, you can get the coveted postmark here. Afterwards, you will get to know the old iron town of Steyr on a guided city tour. The festive Christmas Eve at the hotel begins at around 17.30, when you can enjoy the festive buffet and a Christmas programme with a little music. At 22.00 you may attend Midnight Mass at the parish church (approx. 10 minutes on foot).
Day 3: Styria
Round trip through the Salzkammergut. Via Liezen, you reach the well-known winter sports resort of Bad Mitterndorf. After a horse-drawn sleigh ride, you will have the opportunity to have lunch at the Eselalm. Back in Wels, the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.
Day 4: The Danube city
(Optional) Drive to Linz. The Pöstlingberg Railway, one of the steepest adhesion railways in the world, takes you up the Pöstlingberg to the pilgrimage basilica of the "Seven Sorrows of Mary", the city's landmark. From there you have a wonderful view of Linz and the Danube. The coach takes you back into the city, where a guided city tour awaits you. Special highlights include the main square with the baroque Trinity Column and the Old and New Cathedrals. In the early afternoon, you continue to Kremsmünster, where you visit the Benedictine abbey. With a tradition spanning 1,200 years and its magnificent, imposing baroque buildings, the monastery is one of the largest and most important in Austria.
Day 5: Wels - Switzerland
Return journey to Switzerland.

An equivalent hotel will be used if this one is unavailable.
