Cologne Christmas Market Advent and shopping with Rhineland charm

Day 1: Switzerland - Cologne

Journey to the cathedral city of Cologne, arriving at approx. 16:00. Free time. Stroll straight to the Christmas market against the impressive backdrop of Cologne Cathedral. Its main attraction is its dreamlike setting directly in front of Cologne's landmark - the cathedral. If you would like to experience a somewhat different market, head to the Harbour Christmas Market right next to the Chocolate-

museum in the Rheinauhafen.

Day 2: Düsseldorf Christmas market

(Optional excursion) Visit the festively decorated capital of North Rhine-Westphalia. Düsseldorf Town Hall provides an enchanting backdrop for the Christmas market on the market square. Romantics will be drawn to the Sternchenmarkt at the Stadtbrückchen. If you have had enough of the pre-Christmas bustle and would rather hunt for gifts, Düsseldorf is also just the place. The heart of the city is the shopping mile "Kö" - the Königsallee with its numerous luxury shops and galleries. Schadowstrasse, Germany's highest-turnover shopping street, as well as the old town with its trendy boutiques, leave no shopping wish unfulfilled. In the afternoon, return to Cologne.

Day 3: Cologne - Switzerland

After breakfast, journey back to Switzerland.

The Christmas markets in Cologne

Cologne's most beautiful and best-known Christmas market takes place in front of Cologne Cathedral. From the Alter Markt to the Heumarkt you will find cosy wooden stalls and an ice rink. The maritime Christmas market at the harbour, with its decorated pagoda tents reminiscent of ships' sails, is also well worth a visit.
