Culinary Journey to Madeira The flower island in the Atlantic
Mild and evergreen all year round, Madeira lies in the middle of the Atlantic. Amid lush gardens and sweeping panoramas, you will discover the island's culinary side: poncha and Madeira wine, spicy espetada and traditional honey cake. Day 1: Switzerland – Funchal
Flight from Zurich to Funchal via Lisbon. A welcome drink awaits you on arrival, followed by a poncha workshop where you will get to know the island's national drink.
Day 2: Funchal
Full-day excursion through the island's capital, with its cathedral and market halls. In the Botanical Garden, exotic plants and far-reaching views await you, along with a tasting of two varieties of Madeira wine.
Day 3: Porto Moniz and Cabo Girão
Excursion to the wild north-west with the natural lava pools of Porto Moniz. At Cabo Girão, you will stand on one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, on a glass-floored viewing platform.
Day 4: Santana
Drive to Santana with its thatched, pointed-gabled houses. At the Quinta do Furão, you will enjoy an espetada lunch with a view of the rugged coastline.
Day 5: East Coast
Via the Portela viewpoint, you will reach the east coast. After a poncha tasting in Porto da Cruz, you will have lunch in the fishing village of Caniçal, then continue via Machico and the Christ statue at Garajau.
Day 6: Eira do Serrado
In the morning, drive to the Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint and on to Eira do Serrado with views into the Nuns' Valley, accompanied by cherry liqueur and honey cake. The afternoon is at your leisure.
Day 7: Funchal
Free day at your leisure, for the old town, the Mercado dos Lavradores or the seafront promenade. (Optional) In the evening, enjoy a folklore evening with a traditional local dinner.
Day 8: Funchal – Switzerland
Transfer to the airport and return flight to Switzerland via Lisbon.
