Denmark - Copenhagen - Funen Enjoy the feeling of "hygge" in the little kingdom
Denmark is a small country, or so the locals claim. Yet with its 500 islands and 7,500 km of coastline, it is not quite as small as all that. What it certainly is, is very "hygge" - the Danish word for cosy. There are ancient Viking fortresses and mighty Renaissance palaces, impressive bridges, countless wind turbines busily turning - and the charming city of Copenhagen. Accompanied by an expert and devoted admirer of the country, and at the best time of year, discover and experience not only the famous sights but also the picturesque, cosy and hidden corners.

Day 1: Switzerland - Hanover
Journey via Frankfurt to Hanover.
Day 2: Wadden Sea - Ribe
Passing Hamburg, you continue through Schleswig-Holstein to the Danish North Sea coast. In the vast Wadden Sea National Park, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, you explore the breathtaking nature, marshland and unique bird paradise on a short walk along the marsh path with a local guide. With a little luck, you may spot seals as well as golden eagles.
Day 3: Ribe - West Coast - Vemb
Stroll through Ribe, once wealthy and important, a royal town and Denmark's largest port. It is Denmark's oldest and cosiest small town, deep in the provinces. The cobblestones arch even more than elsewhere, and the 100 protected half-timbered houses have beams that are even more crooked than usual. Continue via Blåvand to the Lynvig Fyr lighthouse, with magnificent views over the wide coastline and the wild North Sea. Scenic drive through the beautiful dune landscape to Hvide Sande and on to Vemb.
Day 4: Vemb - Thy - Aalborg
Journey to Thyborøn and the "Sneglehuset" - the snail house - a unique building decorated inside and out with millions of shells and snail shells. Ferry crossing to Agger, followed by a tour and walks in Thy National Park, which stretches along the coast with its endlessly long, beautiful beaches. With the local guide, you watch flocks of breeding wading birds, admire the surfers riding the wild waves in Klitmøller, a former fishing village, and enjoy a typical smørrebrød. Onward journey to bustling Aalborg, a "Paris of the North". Denmark's third-largest city has undergone an impressive transformation in recent years from an industrial town to a cultural stronghold.
Day 5: Skagen - the Danish North Cape
(Optional) excursion to the northernmost tip of Jutland and Denmark, Skagen, with its characteristic yellow houses. Here the two seas, the Skagerrak and the Kattegat, meet and merge in waves - a unique natural spectacle that you explore on a tractor ride. South of Skagen you come across the "Tilsandede Kirke", the sand-buried church, and walk to Råbjerg Mile, Europe's second-largest migrating dune - definitely a highlight of your trip - 40 m high masses of sand covering an area of 120 ha.
Day 6: Aalborg - Aarhus - Odense
Journey to the cultural capital Aarhus, Denmark's second-largest city, and stroll through times long past in the open-air museum "Den Gamle By", built in the form of a medieval small town. Lunch stop in the city centre, whose picturesque lanes in several small quarters invite you to a lunch break on the Åboulevarden along the idyllic little river. In the former harbour, Århus Ø is currently emerging as a completely new, ultra-modern district that has already developed into a local hotspot. The iceberg buildings that have already been completed are an architectural masterpiece. Onward journey to Odense.
Day 7: Funen - the Danish South Sea
(Optional excursion) Funen is Denmark's "garden island". You visit the unique Renaissance castle of Egeskov with its wonderful, vast gardens. In the afternoon, enjoy a leisurely boat trip from Svendborg through the "Danish South Sea" to Tåsinge.
Day 8: Odense - Copenhagen
Odense is the home of the world-famous fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. Walking tour of the restored old town quarter. You cross the Great Belt Bridge by coach to reach the next island - Zealand - and arrive in Copenhagen. Cosmopolitan, charming and lively without being hectic - Denmark's wonderful capital, Copenhagen, is counted among the most beautiful cities in the world. In the afternoon, a guided city tour of this bustling, vibrant metropolis takes you to the Little Mermaid, Strøget, Amalienborg Palace, where the Queen resides, and to the old harbour and the new Opera House. Completely innocent, the Little Mermaid sits on a rock at the end of the harbour promenade. You stay in the heart of Copenhagen, just a few steps from Tivoli and the pedestrian zone.
Day 9: COPENHAGEN
A full day at leisure in Copenhagen. How about a stroll along Europe's oldest and longest pedestrian street, the Strøget, which winds its way for a good 2 km from Rådhuspladsen to Kongens Nytorv? With every metre towards Nytorv, the Strøget becomes more elegant and the window displays more exclusive. The once sinful mile at the harbour, "Nyhavn", now tempts you to take a break in the many restaurants, bars and street cafés with their colourful, old house facades. (Optional) If you feel like it, join the morning excursion to North Zealand, where you follow in the footsteps of the Danish kings in the small town of Hillerød. The vast Frederiksborg Castle lies like an enchanted fairy-tale castle on three islands in a lake. It is well worth taking a walk through the beautiful Baroque park with its numerous avenues. Do not miss an evening visit to the most famous amusement park in the world. In Tivoli, in addition to numerous attractions, you will find water features, a lake and several restaurants.
Day 10: Copenhagen - Hanover
Detour to Møns Klint. They have been celebrated in song and painted: the white cliffs rise up to 120 m - an exciting piece of nature with a magnificent view. Coach journey to Rødby, ferry crossing to Puttgarden and onward journey by coach to Hanover.
Day 11: Hanover - Switzerland
Return journey via Frankfurt to Switzerland.
