Day 1: Switzerland - Villach
Travel via St.Gallen to Munich and past Salzburg. Arrival in the charming town of Villach.
Day 2: Lake Wörthersee
Excursion to Lake Wörthersee with a local tour guide. Today's route takes you past numerous filming locations of well-known film and television productions, with stops at the pilgrimage centre of Maria Wörth and the western bay of Velden with the famous "Schloss am Wörthersee". Guided walk in Klagenfurt. The city lies between Lake Wörthersee and the Karawanks and, thanks to its many magnificent buildings, squares and cosy arcaded courtyards, has a Mediterranean flair.
Day 3: Lake Ossiach
Today you will explore Lake Ossiach and visit the collegiate church of Ossiach, a Baroque gem. Along the Villacher Alpe/Dobratsch panoramic road, impressive views of the surrounding mountain ranges await you, as well as a regional Carinthian culinary speciality. In the afternoon, you will visit the small shopping town of Spittal an der Drau and see the inner courtyard of Porcia Castle, a Renaissance jewel known for its annual comedy festival and the mystery of Countess Salamanka, who, according to legend, still haunts the castle as a ghost today. The old countess is said to have been seen again and again walking along a corridor and disappearing through a door.
Day 4: Lake Faak and Villach
Today you will discover the Alpe-Adria region of Lake Faak and Villach - the gateway to the south. The Karawanks rise majestically above the crystal-clear Lake Faak with its little island. Afterwards, enjoy a walk through the lively town of Villach, with its Mediterranean touch, a carnival stronghold in winter and caught up in kermis fever in summer. In the evening, a festive New Year's Eve programme awaits you.
Day 5: Millstatt and Gmünd
In the afternoon, drive to Lake Millstatt, where you can discover the sculpture park by the lake, the bathhouse or the Romanesque cloister and the interesting collegiate church. In the artists' town of Gmünd, you stroll through medieval lanes and across the main square. Why not take a peek into one of the many studios?
