NZZ Reader Trip: Paris The magic of opera between the Bastille and the Palais Garnier

Day 1: Switzerland – Paris

Journey to Paris by TGV in first class. After our arrival, we enjoy a delicious 3-course lunch including drinks in a restaurant steeped in tradition. We then check in to our rooms at the luxurious 5-star Hotel Sofitel Le Scribe Paris Opéra. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure for first individual discoveries around the Opéra Garnier and the elegant boulevards.

Day 2: Paris & Opera Werther

In the morning, a comprehensive city tour introduces us to the finest sights of Paris. Passing the Champs-Élysées, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and many other landmarks, we experience the diversity of the French capital. To get us in the mood for the opera evening, we enjoy an aperitif with delicate canapés at the hotel. We then attend Massenet's Werther at the Opéra Bastille in 1st category seats.

Day 3: Paris & Louvre & Concert Piotr Beczała

In the morning, a guided tour reveals the most important masterpieces of the Louvre. The afternoon is at your leisure, inviting you to stroll, shop or visit a café. Before the concert, we meet for an aperitif at the hotel. In the evening, we look forward to the song recital by Piotr Beczała in the magnificent Palais Garnier, one of the most beautiful opera houses in the world.

Day 4: Paris – Switzerland

After breakfast, we leave Paris and begin our journey home aboard the comfortable Car Rouge Premium coach. On the way, we enjoy a shared lunch in an idyllically located restaurant in Burgundy. With many unforgettable impressions of this very special music and culture trip, we return to Switzerland.

Her first theatre tears were shed in the opera house of her home town, Wuppertal. It was there that Mimì's last breath drifted across the orchestra and almost tore her heart apart, and there that her fascination with the drama of opera was kindled, a fascination that has never let go of her since. Margitta Rosales studied on a scholarship at the Sofia State Conservatoire and completed her Master's at the Zurich University of the Arts. Since 2022, she has accompanied Car Rouge guests to major opera houses and concert halls. From Milan to Paris and Vienna, she shares her love of music and the incomparable experience of immersing oneself in the fascinating cosmos of a concert hall, the sound of voices and instruments that carry us away into other dimensions of time.
