Asparagus Feast at the Bohrerhof
We set off punctually from Windisch towards Pratteln and then crossed the border at Rheinfelden, continuing to the Bohrerhof in Hartheim-Feldkirch.
The journey was made entertaining by the relaxed and witty manner of our driver Christian Winkel, and on arrival at the Bohrerhof we were welcomed by Mr Bohrer in person.
With a short tour through the various stages of asparagus processing, he aroused our interest. Mr Bohrer patiently showed and explained each stage to us. It is not only asparagus that is grown at the Bohrerhof, but also, depending on the season, courgettes, pumpkin, lamb's lettuce and chicory.
After the tour, we went into the farm shop. Besides products from its own cultivation, it also offers specialities such as wines, liqueurs and gift items. Quite a few baskets were filled while browsing the shop.
We were then able to enjoy the freshly harvested asparagus directly in the Bohrerhof restaurant. «Fresh from the field to the table» is the motto.
As soon as you open the menu, you realise that here you get everything an asparagus lover could wish for. From a traditional cream of asparagus soup to an asparagus lasagne, accompanied by a suitable selection of wines.
After a cosy and restorative dinner, we finally left the Bohrerhof and headed back towards Switzerland.
